A very readable and exciting investigation of the Bermuda Triangle Legend that will especially please readers who think scientifically. The author compares each legendary disappearance of a craft with the original sources of information and the results of official investigations. He proves that many, if not most, of the disappearances occurred OUTSIDE the Bermuda Triangle. He shows that prosaic explanations have been established for most of the disappearances. Further, he shows that for some of the alleged disappearances there is no evidence that the craft ever existed and in other cases the craft were found in perfect condition with crews intact. Perhaps quoting the author's concluding remarks (page 277) is the best summation: "Many of the writers who publicized the events did no original research but merely rephrased the articles of previous writers, thereby perpetuating the errors and embellishments in earlier accounts. In a number of incidents writers withheld information that provided an obvious solution to the disappearance. The Legend of the Bermuda Triangle is a manufactured mystery. It began because of careless research and was elaborated upon and perpetuated by writers who either purposely or unknowingly made use of misconceptions, faulty reasoning, and sensationalism. It was repeated so many times that it began to take on the aura of truth."
If you like to know the real truth about stuff, then this book is for you. If you prefer to be sold fantasy and nonsense by shysters and "creative writers", then you won't like this book. It boils down the whole "Mystery" to Fake News. Sensationalism. Lies. The author went on a quest to find original reports, police reports, actual witness testimony, etc. He shows you what the legends and newspapers say, and then he shows you what the original accurate records say. First the fable, then the truth. Once you have read the book, you can laugh at the "experts" that show up every few years with new theories about the Great Bermuda Triangle Mystery. You learn ships and planes don't disappear because of aliens from outer space or because the devil opens the door to Hell and drags them down. You see how ordinary stories become "enhanced" with salacious bizarre fables at the hands of journalists. Very good information to have in your Arsenal of Truth.
This and the author's subsequent book on Flight 19 should be required reading for anyone interested in the disappearances associated with this stretch of ocean (and sky). He breaks down facts and circumstances of most of the better known disappearances as well as some of the lesser known events in a logical, practical way and dis-spells the numerous errors in the myths of each despite their popularity. You get a much better understanding of what probably happened in each case and can more easily separate fact from pure fiction. Compelling. Highly recommended.
Nice to see fantasy busted... supposedly smart people wasted so much time on non existent mysteries... a little research and some logical, rational thinking can clear up quite a few conundrums....would add more, but I have to get back to my home planet before the Mayans return and Earth hits a galaxy speed bump...
