First time I opened the book, there were the instructions I needed to work on a Colt Detective Special. That is excellent but the quality of the paper used for the pages seems somewhat lacking/flimsy. I will have to take good care of it so it lasts a long time because I definitely will get lots of use out of this book.

Received this book for a Christmas present. Discovered over half of the pictures were defective and hard to make out. It seemed like some sort of screen was placed over the pictures before they were placed onto the pages. Some photos were very dark. I feel the publisher of this book needs to recall them. I cannot fault the vendor of the book, they had sent a replacement with no charge to me. The second book was just like the first book. The photos were bad starting on page 52 and over half of the photos throughout the remainder of the book were horrible. It is being returned for a refund. I would not recommend purchasing this book.
II don't consider my self a gun smith but I have worked on a host of different firearms and this manual has been a great help when a buddy brings me a gun that has been disassembled all ready or is a good reference with pictures that helps one understand the guns functions and design characteristics. For example, I worked on an old Stevens Model 54A that came to me with a missing extractor, spring and plunger. This book helped me to locate a similar part and modify it to original function so that the extractor was once again operational on this old firearm!
I have been a professional Gunsmith for over 30 years. My reference book collection was damaged recently, so I am rebuilding my library. These books, and those like these are an absolute must for anyone who is a gunsmith, or aspires to become a gunsmith. This book, while a bit worn and aged, is a perfect example. This book is a classic. It includes easy to follow instructions for assembly and disassembly of many classic shotguns. Not only are the pictures very helpful they include ways of avoiding problem and pitfalls as well as how and what tools to use. Unlike exploded diagrams, it includes step by step clearly illustrated instructions. It is one of a series that also covers other types of firearms and should be a welcome addition to any shotgunner's library. I highly recommend it.
It's really difficult to find much information on disassembly of the 1907 savage pistol but this book had me covered. Could have been a little more clear but much better than wingin it.
