This long awaited (well, not so very long - thank you Kate!) sequel to the superb Pony Jumpers series is about as close to perfection as you could want. A new and 'interesting' horse, complex relationships both human and equine not to mention the always electric show jumping scene. This book takes a well known character to places that are doubtful and dark but remains as beautiful and balanced as a Grand Prix champion. I cannot recommend this series highly enough. My favourites remain the 'Dream On' books but it's very hard to pick between Kate's three collections. The cleverness of the interweaving of her riders and their friends and families is just magical and I only wish there could be one novel per day as that's the speed I get through them despite trying to rein myself in (pun intended). Many thanks Kate, you bring such perfect storytelling, characters and common sense to the world of horse books, something I never thought I'd see again. TEN STARS!!!

This is a much darker book than some of the other Pony Jumpers--in a good way, because it shows a different side to Katy than the earlier installments. Katy is an excellent rider and is very confident--in some ways, too confident about her ability to ride anything and everything. She begins the book elated with the fact that she's just acquired the horse of her dreams, only to discover that the horse has a number of behavioral issues. Katy is independent and stubborn and is convinced she can 'fix' these things herself. The book takes Katy and the reader on a journey of self-discovery as well as highlights a very common phenomenon in the horse world--finding yourself over-horsed and not knowing what to do. Katy is such an interesting character and it's so refreshing to see a heroine who is proud (almost to a fault) and passionate about what she does. Even if the reader doesn't always agree with her decisions, she can't help cheering Katy on.

This series continues to be one of my favourite horse and pony series. The sixth instalment is told from Katy's point of view.Katy's father has returned from AU and wants to be a part of her life. He buys her a horse that is meant to take her "to the top". The horse of her dreams becomes a nightmare to ride -- and Katy cannot figure out what is wrong with her. She has grown up riding difficult horses and ponies, but she is at a loss when it comes to Tori -- and Katy is afraid of the horse. People are expecting great things to happen and she is feeling the pressure...

Five stars because I love the series but this particular book was not my favourite. Firstly, the series. If you want an accurate, realistic depiction of life as a pony showjumper in NZ, this series is perfect! But (SPOILERS from now on) this book doesn't live up to the rest of the series. Firstly, Katy's dad buys her a very expensive new horse out of the blue. I didn't think this was very realistic considering the characters' histories but I was willing to over look it to see where Katy goes with this new horse who is not quite what the sellers claimed her to be. Unfortunately, this book barely mentions the new horse and it is relegated to a sub plot role so that Katy can get her flirt on with a boy. A boy who lets not forget, was a total a-hole in the last book, intentionally spooking horses causing a potentially dangerous situation - something he never really justified or adequately apologised for. I hope Katy dumps his ass in the next book but it seems likely that he will stick around or will dump her instead. My main complaint about this book though was the set up for Katy to develop an eating disorder - the classic pony box trope of the already skinny girl who accidentally becomes anorexic due to family drama stressing her out. Its been done to death and does not need to be repeated. The Saddle Club did it years and years ago, and numerous pony book series have done it since, including the A Circuit which has some remarkable parallels with Katy's storyline. In both of them the girl faints and falls off a horse after developing wet noodle arms trying to hold back a strong horse. Both show disgust at greasy food and forget to eat all day as they are too busy with horses. Both have a boyfriend/love interest who likes them despite their eating disorder. Both of them take a few small bites of food before discarding their plate and storming off after an argument. Really this cleche plotline has been done to death and is just boring now. I hope Kate Lattey reconsiders where she is going with Katy's story because this book was disappointing. I am still eagerly awaiting the next book in the series of course, but I'm hoping there will be no more skipped meals and overly long runs for Katy in it.

Kate Lattey did it again - wrote a brilliant new book in the Pony Jumper series. As you become familiar with her characters and her way of writing, you cannot help but love the way the story progresses (and this goes for all her books!) While I loved reading Six to Ride, I find it a bit different from the previous five books, by the way the main character Katy is working through patterns - patterns that many adult also struggle with. The emotional conflicts are brilliantly described and as usual the equestrian parts are spot on as well - even to someone like me who is not a showjumper! I truly recommend reading the entire series (and Kate Lattey's other books as well...) Eagerly awaiting no. 7 now!

How I wish books like this had been around when I was in my teens! Kate Lattey captures teenagers and their relationships with their families, friends and ponies exquisitely.Katy has had an absent father for many years. Now he's back in her life and brandishing a chequebook. Katy gets the horse of her dreams, Tori, a stunning mare who can take her to the top. But dreams can turn to nightmares and when Tori arrives home Katy realizes she's in for the hardest four-legged challenge she's ever had.Another terrific mix of subtle riding teaching, realistic families, and a hint of romance. What's not to love?

Love the way the characters are growing and changing.
